What will Bear Grylls do? emergency first aid supplies

These days no American can afford to not have emergency preparedness. First aid readiness reguires that you keep a basic list of essential supplies and learn a few survival tips.

So what would Bear Grylls of Man vs. Wild would reccomend to any wilderness junkie.

Bear Grylls has hosted the Discovery Channel’s , in which he strands himself in remote locations to demonstrate localized survival techniques. So when it comes to being ready for anything the expert is Bear!

According to Discovery Channel.com “Bear served three years with the Special Air Service, a special forces unit of the British army. During his service, he broke his back in three places in a parachuting accident over Southern Africa.

Despite the accident and severity of his injury, Bear went on in 1998 to become, at age 23, the youngest British climber to complete a summit and descent of Mount Everest. He wrote about his experience in the book, The Kid Who Climbed Everest.

]]>

Not content to slow down, Bear achieved another first when he and his Everest climbing group circumnavigated the United Kingdom on jet skis. He also led the first unassisted crossing of the frozen North Atlantic Ocean in an open rigid inflatable boat. His book about this adventure, Facing the Frozen Ocean, was shortlisted as the U.K.’s “Sports Book of the Year.” Bear was awarded a commission in the Royal Navy in honor of leading this record-breaking expedition.

In June 2005, Bear broke a world record by hosting a dinner party at a table suspended below a hot air balloon at 24,500 feet. He rappelled from the balloon’s basket to the table, where in full naval uniform he ate a three-course meal before saluting the queen and skydiving to earth. His goal was to support the work of two charities: the Prince’s Trust and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Bear hosted a 2005 television series for the U.K.’s Channel Four, called Escape to the Legion, in which he took a group of young men to the Western Sahara Desert to undergo the French Foreign Legion’s infamous basic training. A second Channel Four series, titled Born Survivor: Bear Grylls, completed its U.K. run in April 2007.

On May 15, 2007, Bear set another world record when he became the first person to fly over Mount Everest by powered paraglider. Supported by the GKN Mission Everest Team, Grylls and fellow pilot Giles (Gilo) Gardozo flew specially developed paramotors. Though a fault in Gilo’s machine forced him to abort only 1,000 feet below the summit, Bear continued to ascend until he reached 29,500 feet and was able to look down on Everest as he circled above some of the most famous peaks in the Himalayas. Then his own engine developed problems and he, too, had to glide back to safety — but he had achieved his goal. The mission raised million for the Global Angels Foundation, a charity that supports children in Africa. Filmed by the Planet Earth team, Bear and Gilo’s undertaking will be made into a two-hour documentary for Discovery Channel and Channel Four in the U.K.” Source (Disvcovery Channel)

American Cancer Society Car Donation – A Tremendous Way To Give Charity

Finding a place to donate your car to aid other individuals isn’t that simple. There are piles of charities that you can extend but the truth is that you only have one car. You should choose the exact one which you believe is worthy of your assistance and the American Cancer Society is one of those great charities that genuinely are serving people out of your car donation.

You are even advised about the beneficiary of your automobile so you are sure that it will be of right usage. In order to be definite of the total value of your donation, you should deal directly to the American Cancer organization and not on some third party associations. There are other charities that demand they are rendering every penny they picked up to the poverty-stricken but this affirmation is barely unimaginable as each foundation involves operating costs to be occupied.

Each society like this is straightforward and can be assured over your State Attorney General’s agency. They can render the exact share of their expenses and the sum they are contributing to the benefactive roles. Among these institutions in the United States, the American Cancer Society is one of those few that abides by the federal regulations of this kind of charity that deals with automobile contributions.

As being noted, your conclusion of giving your automobile in the first place is the easiest part while deciding where to give it is difficult. You are entirely donating a motorcar and what’s essential is the feeling of comfort that you have imparted it to the right organization.

Why Donate A Car To Charity?

Many reasons exist to donate a car to charity. Firstly, it’s a easy and convenient strategy to remove your vehicle that is towards the end of its effective lifespan. More to the point, though, this really is the best way to assist an group which depends on charitable donations to keep performing. Once you provide a car to these people or organizations, you may make a big difference for numerous men and women in need of funds.

You will need to observe, though, that you will also get the chance to benefit fiscally by simply giving a motor vehicle. Lots of automobiles that will get contributed are generally lowdown and will need lots of work to maintain them traveling. Often, the owner would certainly struggle to obtain much for these types of cars if they sold them or tried to trade them in.

On the other hand, they are able to obtain a good tax reduction. The federal government will allow for tax payers to use a discount when they offer an automobile. A majority of these non-profit donations will have to abide by particular principles, however when a motor vehicle has been used so much that it will not likely bring in much hard cash value, this can be a smart way for the manager to get rid of the car and still profit monetarily. The principles encompassing a car donation tax break are not really elaborate, but they do explain exactly how much the owner can take from her or his taxes.

In the past years, tax payers ended up deducting a bigger quantity than the vehicle seemed to be actually worth, or in fact offered for sale for. Currently there are specific bounds for the total that may be deduced in addition to just what exactly files have to be incorporated to validate the gift. If you wish to have a tax break when you provide an automobile, you can formally make your gift up until the last day of the year, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should delay doing things that extensive. It could take some time to have everything collectively, and also you don’t desire to forget a substantial deduction mainly because you couldn’t obtain the invoice for the sale in time.

A lot of people advise donating in the summer months. This can be a hassle-free time for you to contribute a motor vehicle for a few explanations. First, the weather is more relaxing and also the days are longer, and this makes it simpler and easier to get the vehicle good to go. Second, it is possible to steer clear of the holiday rush, when dozens of other tax payers are trying to generate their own last minute charitable contributions and holding all of the tow trucks busy.

Your car gift can be a great way to get that old clunker off the road and aid a charitable organization which relies upon the kindness of other folks. It is best to take the time to find the charities that help support the difficulties that matter to you so that you can make sure that your contribution is actually creating a genuine difference. One more reason to look carefully at the charity, though, is to make sure that they have got 501(c)(3) public charity status. If the institution does not have this kind of position, then it isn’t a legitimate place to contribute your vehicle and you will then not be able to have a tax deduction for the attempts. Invest the time and do some research, it is possible to effortlessly find the correct place and time to help make your own gift count.

When you have an old car to get rid of why not donate a car to a charity organization rather than selling it for a few hundred dollars? There are many programs where you can donate a car to charity and help someone in need.

Educational Charity: Getting into the Program

Students who cannot afford to send themselves to school anymore would either stop and drop out, or look for ways in which they no longer have to pay for their schooling while they still get to continue going to class. A good education, after all, is the foundation of a good future. So for the underprivileged and the less fortunate who want to still pursue their formal instruction, but have run out of the means to do so, is the only thing to turn to. So how does one get into the program? Do different organizations entail going through different processes and passing a different set of standards? The answers to these questions are all here, so read along and find out the ways in which students can become educational trust awardees.

The first thing one shouldn’t forget when it comes to this subject matter is that if the answer is already online, don’t ask about it again. Therefore, it is important for students, who are planning on sending in queries to certain organizations, to browse through their website first. Typically, groups that offer would already publish everything there is to know about them through cyberspace. Thus, looking for their standards, when it comes to granting financial aid, is easier for those who are interested. Also, remember that some institutions have a very inflexible criteria as well as a rigid system that they need to thoroughly follow in screening their applicants. On the other hand, there are also those which have no strict policies and willingly answer hypothetical questions. Lastly, sending basic information about one’s self is a necessity when trying to ask for a scholarship. A concise sheet containing your name, how old you are, your physical location, your citizenship, the particulars of your education, why additional funding is essential, the approximated amount you need, and how you’re able to come up with the said estimation, specifics on your economic struggles, and information on how to get in touch with a person, who is not a relative, that would be able to confirm all your data should be sent in along with your queries.

Beyond doubt, is such a big help to those who lack the resources to pursue their schooling. So just take into account all the things discussed here before asking about an institution’s requirements. After all, you don’t want to look and sound ignorant when you appeal for a scholarship.

Run, Hike or Bike for Charity; the Sensible Way to Raise Funds!

There appears to be no limit to the generosity of the UK public where charity is concerned; nor does there appear to be any limits to what people will do to persuade others to donate to their cause.

Take some of the more unique or just plain weird fund-raising ideas from the last few years. Most notable of these was the Original Ditch Monkey – real name Hugh Sawyer – who in 2005 decided to spend 12 weeks living in nothing more than a ditch to raise funds for the Woodland Trust, whilst also continuing to travel to his day job at auctioneers Sotheby’s. After spending his allotted time in the woodland ditch the 32-year-old Oxford law graduate decided to extend his effort to a whole year, in an attempt to raise £8,000, and got very close to his target before calling a halt. He is now reported to be holed up in the Rainforest.

In the same year, and all in aid of Cancer Research, the ‘Booby Sisters’ – Tania Amazon and Laura Hawkins – raised an impressive sum of over £5,000 by walking from the London Eye to Parliament Square, a relatively short sponsored walk. However, the brave girls opted to reveal their ample assets along the entire route, in mid- November no less, which probably explains the high level of contributions, and also the reason why so many of their sponsors turned out to ensure the girls made the trek!

As those humorous examples prove, there are many different ways of giving to charity and indeed some people dedicate a significant part of their life to raising funds for various causes. This month it has been widely reported that the late Jeremy Beadle was responsible for raising in excess of £100million on behalf of Leukaemia research before ironically becoming a victim of the disease himself.

But, somewhere in between those examples of weird and wacky and lifelong devotion fall the majority of fundraisers. Most of us at some point or another have done a sponsored run, hike or bike ride in favour of a favourite charity. You can even give to those less fortunate by doing nothing more strenuous than drinking a cup of coffee! The ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ is quite possibly the largest single cause co-ordinated, indoor charity event in the UK, and raised almost £7.5million in 2007.

Whether it’s crazy stunts, dogged determination or just a plain old-fashioned sponsored walk, it seems the great British public will always stump up for a deserving charity.

Todd Tobin Features Multiple Recommendations On how to Establish a Charity Organization

Shared By Todd Tobin

Should you have little know-how about this topic, then starting a non-profit organization could appear to be difficult to you. But, the simple truth is it’s not so. In fact, if you’re able to adopt a general guideline you can quickly expect to form a philanthropic organization.

It might without doubt be said that before going ahead with this charitable cause, it will always be far better to think of a plan. It’s quite distinct you know about your intentions but others might not be conscious of your objectives. So, it is necessary to let them know. The Starting Point is to clearly draft your organizational objectives and activities and highlight them to the people specifically to the charity commission, volunteers and potential investors. Thus, if you’re able to persuade them effectively, you can surely foresee gaining effective support from them.

Next You will begin the planning strategy. Picking out an apt reputable name the organization indeed comes first. The name must remain unambiguous so that people might not confuse it with other social non-profit organizations.

Quite often an issue may come about regarding which legal body will best suit your entity. Though you can invariably establish a trust, it is better to go for the company limited by guarantee. The reason being; this type of a corporation can simply meet the legal necessities. The truth is, these companies don’t have shareholders so there is no need of doing any type of profit orientated operations. Most likely, this is the reason why the majority would prefer to choose this category. Always remember that you’re starting this institute for the advantage of the common people. So, never ever adopt any illegal means that may hurt the sentiments of the people you are serving.

For anybody who is new in this field, make certain you haven’t forgotten to draft the clause into company’s memorandum of association. This clause exclusively gives an overview of the organizational objects and the people they provide services. Apart from this, you’ll find that you ought to include two other activities in the association’s memorandum. These are dissolution clause and the non-profit clause.

A very important factor must be remembered that in order to get registered by the Charity Commission, you must have a yearly income of £5,000. As soon as you get registered, the company limited by guarantee is provided with a company registration number along with a charity number. Nevertheless, make yourself clear about the fact that strict laws are placed on charities in order to prevent abuse. But if you are working for authentic cause then you’ll enjoy several advantages, such as:
Relaxation in income tax, Relaxation in capital gains tax, Reduction in business rates, Special VAT treatments, Financial aid from local Government. by: Sanjay Nandy

So, if you have a noble cause behind your establishment of a charity organization , go ahead with your plan. Not only government but good people will also come forward to make you fulfill your mission.

ATM Charity Giving Looks Set to Become Part of the UK Big Society

The UK Coalition government is calling on banks and ATM providers to let them know how to make charitable donations via ATM happen in the UK. Consultations are taking place in the early months of 2011 and will be led by Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude.

The request was made in their ‘Giving’ Green paper, issued in December 2010 as part of David Cameron’s vision of a ‘Big Society’ for Britain. In ‘Giving’ they introduce ideas such as empowering communities, opening up public services and encouraging social action. The idea is to increase levels of mutual support and giving in British society, make social action a cultural norm, and to kick-start a debate to feed into a White paper due to appear in Spring 2011. Citizens are encouraged to participate by volunteering their time and skills, and by making financial contributions to good causes.

It is amazing just how generous the British public can be, even when they are going through hard times. In fact, they are possibly even MORE likely to donate to charity during hard times. Although high earners are the most likely to give, low earners also like to be generous to good causes, with 4% of those in the lowest income quartile regularly giving away over £100 per month. (Source: National Council for Voluntary Organisations/Charities Aid Foundation survey of 2006/2007).

The government is looking for innovative ways to make charitable giving quicker and easier, and cites the example of the Colombian system of ATM giving, which allows customers to make a donation every time they withdraw cash. Since 1998 Colombian customers have been able to donate to charity whenever they make a withdrawal from a Servibank ATM. Around 100,000 donations, averaging each, are made this way in Colombia every month.

Some cynics might think that there is a fat chance of getting British people to dig even deeper into their own pockets at a time when inflation is on the up, pay rises are on hold, public services are being slashed to the bone, and many are losing their jobs. Critics of the scheme, including some Tory MPs, are describing it as more like ‘Big Brother’ than ‘Big Society’, and are calling on the government to lower taxes before asking consumers to cough up.

It is an interesting idea, but there are many questions still to be answered, including:-
* Which charities will benefit from the scheme?
* Will ATM users be able to choose who they donate to?
* Will all the donations go to charity or will third-party vendors take a slice?

I look forward to seeing what Francis Maude comes up with over the coming weeks, and what technical solutions are offered by the ATM industry.

Charity Through Fundraising

Many Australian charities are supported through various kinds of fundraising events. The school lamington drive or selling chocolates door-to-door are well known in most communities. Many children’s charities could not exist without this generous support from the community; however, people do get tired of the same fundraising event over and over.

Why not make the next fundraising event a little different? In these days of computer technology, an online store for your chosen charity would be appropriate. It not only saves a great deal of time, but is relatively easy to set up.

Not everyone likes to be asked to buy something when they answer that ring on their front door bell. But nearly everyone likes to spend time on their computer and many people have become used to shopping this way. If your fundraising includes things to buy that are practical and useful, then many more people are likely to buy from you and support your charity.

You can make the product something that is personal to each person. For instance, you could offer photo mugs that they will upload their own photo for. This gives supporters a chance to buy something that is unique to them alone. Such a mug will make a beautiful gift for family members, so it is useful too. It will meet a need for a gift in a way that is easy and fun.

If you added other things such as key rings, calendars, photo books, mouse pads and T-shirts you would get a great many more buyers. People would buy because those are things they need anyway. So really you are fulfilling a need in the community as well as helping out a charity – something that will make any fund-raising event successful.

Once your fund-raising event has an online presence it is possible to attract a great many more donors than you could do locally. People all over Australia would be able to find your website and buy goods from your online store.

Charitable Organizations Partner To Aid The Suddenly Homeless

No one prepares themselves for the possibility of becoming homeless. To most it has always been a worst fear that will never come true. However, due to the recent economic events that worst fear has become today’s grim reality to millions of Americans.

In past years the term ‘homeless’ triggered an image of an unkempt man living in cardboard boxes or subway tunnels and keeping warm next to a trashcan fire. Today there is another group of people who are suffering similar struggles who can be found in a cubicle across the hall at the office. The U.S. government categorizes these individuals as ‘temporarily’ or ‘transitionally’ homeless. They are the suddenly homeless.

These citizens can be the victims of natural disasters, domestic violence, workforce cuts, at-risk teens, etc. Many of them still have part or full-time employment but still cannot afford some of the most basic human needs. This is where a partnership of charitable organizations plays a vital role.

For the 3.5 million Americans who will experience homelessness this year, it is crucial for them to have a safe place that will provide them with resources to put them on the path to self-sufficiency.

Partnerships are being established between many different organizations whose mission is to not only prevent the numbers from rising, but also aid those who are currently considered suddenly homeless. Such organizations include Volunteers of America, Girls and Boys Town, Catholic Charities USA, and YMCA. Each has its own approach and varying curriculum but all are focused on providing human service programs. These programs are designed to educate people about personal finance and career advancement, and sometimes to provide on-site medical assistance as well.

]]>

Catholic Charities USA focuses on reducing the number of families in emergency shelters by increasing the number of affordable housing units in hundreds of cities throughout the United States. Volunteers of America, an interdenominational missionary, takes an alternative approach and strives to bring communities together by regaining harmony and hope in the lives of the homeless.

Girls and Boys Town recently succeeded in completing a project which made a donated shelter available for at-risk children between the ages of seven and eleven. The children served by this generous donation will be able to continue their education and receive the necessary care that will lead to a brighter future. Similarly, the YMCA had a building donated that is providing women and children a safe haven while working toward a fresh start.

None of these donations and accomplishments would be possible without the partnering of such charitable organizations with others that provide the necessary resources. In today’s economic uncertainty the numbers of the suddenly homeless are steadily increasing every month. Although the unemployment rate has stabilized, the progress has been slow and the impact small in comparison to the damage that has already occurred. By partnering together organizations have more opportunities to make a difference and help the suddenly homeless begin a new chapter in their lives.

Thanks to the multifaceted programs offered by organizations such as Volunteers of America and Catholic Charities USA, thousands of individuals who find themselves struggling without basic needs now have a place that can help. They can find a bed to sleep in, a hot meal, and even the necessary skills to help them overcome the challenges they are facing. Partnering organizations can give the suddenly homeless the second chance at life that they need.

HomeAid is a leading national non-profit organization that builds and maintains dignified multi-unit housing where America’s suddenly homeless families and individuals while they rebuild their lives. HomeAid has built more than 200 multi-unit facilities with an additional 36 in development. These shelters provide more than 1,800,000 bed-nights per year nationwide to help the suddenly homeless.
