CSPYS' first St. Patrick's Cathedral Experience
Cathedral of Saint Patrick Young Singers at the Cathedral of St. Patrick choir loft, October 23, 2005.

At a time when young people are less and less exposed to the arts and to a religious lifestyle, the Cathedral of Saint Patrick Young Singers offers its members an educational opportunity in which liturgy and the choral art come together to enhance spiritual growth and personal enrichment. These are the characteristics of a highly elevated form of education.

The Cathedral of Saint Patrick Young Singers offers New York City children and teenagers of all backgrounds and faiths the opportunity to discover the best in themselves, to grow in confidence, commitment, concentration, discipline, teamwork and leadership, to receive an outstanding musical education in a safe setting, under the auspices of one of the world’s most renowned religious institutions, New York City’s Cathedral of Saint Patrick.

The Young Singers will study the best choral music available and they will learn Gregorian chant from its original notation. The training curriculum is designed to challenge them through a series of progressive goals.

As they grow, the Young Singers will be made aware that their choir does not exist in isolation. Although it will function as its own community, it will also be a part of the wider community.

The Young Singers will be encouraged to explore how their participation benefits the other members of the group and those outside. They will learn the importance of the gift of music, the power of music, and the meaning of community.

Most importantly, the Cathedral of Saint Patrick Young Singers will enable its members to fulfill their dream to sing and it will give them the tools they need to find and keep their voice for life.
